Coleman was born in the town of Blackpool in Lancashire. She graduated from Arnold School Blackpool, where she scored straight A's for her A-levels. Steven Moffat revealed at a Doctor Who Press Conference on the 21st of March that Coleman was going to play Matt Smith as the Doctor's companion after Karen Gillan, Arthur Darvill and others left the show.
